What is the difference between composite and timber decking? +
Timber decking uses pressure-treated softwood or hardwood boards and has a natural look, but needs annual oiling or staining to stay in good condition. Composite decking uses boards made from wood fibre and plastic — it's almost maintenance-free, never needs staining, and won't rot or splinter. Composite costs more upfront but less over time. We install both and will advise which suits your garden and budget.
How much does composite decking cost in Ireland? +
Timber decking installation in Dublin starts from around €1,200. Composite decking costs more as the boards are premium and almost maintenance-free, and the exact price depends on the deck size, the board brand chosen, and any add-ons like railings or built-in seating. Because every garden is different, we give a fixed, itemised quote after a free visit.
Can decking be laid on grass or an uneven garden? +
Yes. We build on a frame fixed to concrete feet or posts, so the deck can be levelled even on sloped or uneven ground. This also protects the structure from ground moisture. We'll assess your garden on the site visit and recommend the best approach for your ground conditions.
How long does composite decking last? +
Quality composite decking typically comes with a 20–25 year manufacturer warranty and can last considerably longer with basic cleaning. It won't rot, warp or splinter like untreated timber. The boards are UV-stabilised, so the colour holds well in Irish weather.
Do composite decking boards need maintenance? +
Very little. A wash down with a brush and soapy water (or a light pressure wash) once or twice a year is enough to keep composite boards looking good. No oiling, staining or sealing is ever needed — which is the main reason most Dublin homeowners choose composite over timber.
Can I put composite decking over my existing deck? +
Sometimes, if the existing frame is structurally sound. We'll inspect it on the site visit — if the joists are solid and level, we can lay composite boards on top. If the frame is rotted or uneven, it's better (and safer) to replace it at the same time.
Do you fit decking railings and steps? +
Yes. We install timber and glass panel railings, and build steps in matching timber or composite to match the deck. We also add built-in planters, lighting channels and hidden fixing systems depending on the design.
How long does it take to build a deck? +
A standard garden deck takes one to two days once materials are on-site. Larger or more complex builds with multiple levels, railings and steps may take three to four days. We'll give you a realistic timeline when we quote.
